Bali Pics 2006

Photos of the one precious sunny day at the beach and resort pool

Airplane contrails streaked through the evening sky

Sunset at Pura Tanah Lot, seaside temple on the west side of Bali.

Gorgeous sunset-y shots. =)

2 girls running and frolicking on their way home. Home is a kampung just behind the main street of Ubud.. again proving the close but mutually-ignoring co-existence of commercial Bali and traditional Bali

Chilling in Casa Luna in Ubud. Well worth the steep (by Indo standards) prices.

More street scenes..

View from Penelokan into the caldera of Gunung Batur. The lava flows from the crater down to the walls of the double caldera can be seen. The lake, Danau Batur, is formed inside the original caldera.

The paths behind the temple lead to a small waterfall, a small stream that burbles away through the jungle, and a tiny village complete with terraced muddy rice fields and raised mud paths. Just a stone's throw away from rampant commercialism, the villagers' life goes on as usual..

At the mouth of the Goa Gajah cave. The stone carvings are quite intricate.

G in a sarong hehehehehehehehe.

The ancient caves at Goa Gajah

I like this series. =)

Even the chicken goes to pasar.

Just another day at the Sukawati pasar.

For religious purpose that I have not yet figured out, all the statues wear a sarong and a sash.. So must humans when visiting sacred sites. Like G having to don a purple sarong above. Heh Heh..

A frieze on a random wall. So common in Bali, artistic profusion is everywhere.

Street scenes..

Interior of Made's Warung II, supposed to be quite a famous place to eat along Jln Raya Seminyak. We had excellent gado gado, interesting (but unfortunately not too fillling) sate (aka satay), and some weird fishcake like thingy that is supposed to be a Balinese specialty. This is definitely a place catering to tourists and their wallets.

Thought it was very vibrant and eye-catching to paint the wall red among the drab grey alleyways. Good way to draw attention to a recessed shop. They had nice shoes but a pity not my size.. The shoes come in ANG MOH sizes of 40 and above.. Sniff..

Another "street shot" kind of pic.. Doesn't this look so 1930's?

There are no petrol stations in Bali. Petrol is sold everywhere on the street in bottles. A closer look at the petrol bottles actually shows that they are Absolut Vodka bottles. Hmmm either tourists drink a lot or the Balinese themselves do. And the parallels between the two liquids are too obvious. Heh.

Idiosyncrasies of street sights in Bali include freeform spelling, much the same as their free-form driving (hahahahahaha) and very free notions of how much a tourist should pay for stuff, food and services.

These umbrellas and deckchairs actually cannot anyhow sit one. They are touted, and like everything else in Bali you have to pay a fee to get to use it.

FInally one show where me and G both look good. =)

Nice sights along the beach our last day there. The sun was irritatingly shy all the 4 days we were there including the last day, only putting in a brief appearance before dipping below the waves. But still, I am mesmerized by the beauty of the seaside. Nice boh?

I like this shot of the children running so carefree-edly down the road. If you notice they are not wearing shoes and they couldn't care less.
